the UK has the weirdest traditions

for those not in the know, “fool us” is a british magic show where magicians compete to win a spot to open for penn and teller in las vegas.
because of what i do for work, i have seen a LOT of magic, and this is best thing i have seen in a LONG time.
for the record, yes it fooled me.
so this tumblr has laid dormant for about a year.
since then i’ve gone around the world, quit smoking for four months, started smoking again, and been featured in a bunch of stuff that probably won’t make me famous, but i’ve always been a bit of a cynical dreamer…
so it’s been one year since the 2010 games.
i did a show today.
sure isn’t the same.
that being said, after a huge off season from busking, even trying shows are strangely satisfying.
this is hard to explain to someone who isn’t a street performing, but having a show feel like work and then suddenly looking up and realizing “hey, i have a crowd. damn i’m good” is one of the best feelings of all (of the) times.
for a brief period in my show, i was in the “zone”. high level athletes talk about being in the zone and how they can see the pass coming towards them in slow motion and can visualize the goal moments before it happens. it was a good place to be. had all my jokes come to be as i needed them and i even had a really good queensland’s crossover bit in my show.
then all my unpreparedness caught up to me and i lost a chunk my crowd on a (hilariously) badly timed hatline.
damn.
guess i have to get back into the rhythm.
best paired with tim minchin’s “the guilt song (fuck the poor)”.
quite neatly sums up how i’ve been feeling lately.
this is seventeen years ago now.
i have a sister who doesn’t remember life before computers and cell phones.
i feel old.
